Attachment to our desire and our discriminating mind causes most of our stress and health issues in this world. We must look into ourselves to control our selfish desires and unsettled minds to stop suffering and begin to enjoy this life.
We can find the solutions by studying the book of Platform Sutra.
The Sixth Patriarch’s Platform Sutra (六祖壇經) is the fundamental text of Zen Buddhism. It relates the life and teachings of Great Master Hui Neng, the Sixth Patriarch, as set down by one of his disciples. During the seventh and eighth centuries under the Tang Dynasty, Master Hui Neng taught the doctrines of sudden enlightenment, which, as expounded in this text, continue to be the heart of Chan sect wherever it is practiced. As such, these are the only teachings of a Chinese High Master which are regarded by Buddhists as a Sutra, that is, as a sacred text equal to those compiled by Buddhas.
We provide our own translation which aims to use words and meanings as close to the original Chinese text as possible. We hope this will provide a useful stepping stone for those who wish to explore the meanings of Buddha's Dharma.
