Zen Teaching Study (Free)

Details
The Sixth Patriarch’s Platform Sutra is the fundamental text of Zen Buddhism. It relates the life and teachings of Great Master Hui Neng, the Sixth Patriarch, as set down by one of his disciples. During the seventh and eighth centuries under the Tang Dynasty, Master Hui Neng taught the doctrines of sudden enlightenment, which, as expounded in this text, continue to be the heart of Chan sect wherever it is practiced. As such, these are the only teachings of a Chinese High Master which are regarded by Buddhists as a Sutra, that is, as a sacred text equal to those compiled by Buddhas.
We provide our own translation which aims to use words and meanings as close to the original Chinese text as possible. We hope this will provide a useful stepping stone for those who wish to explore the meanings of Buddha's Dharma.
The study is held in Chatswood library every second Thursday 4:30pm to 6pm.
The goals of discussion:
- Understand the fundamental meaning of the Dharma of sudden enlightenment.
- Explore the wisdom within ourselves and its application through discussion.
