GAP Trail - Steel Valley to the Boston Bridge

Details
This trail is very unique and different from what we are used to biking. There are long metal ramps that will take us up and over railroad tracks. They are fun to climb and to ride down. There are also two bridges that will take us across the Monongahela and Youghiogheny River. There is even a park called “Dead man’s Hollow” where we can take a short hike into the scary woods. We will bike behind Kennywood Park and see the roller coaster from the trail. We will also view the Edgar Thomson Works from across the river. All but two miles of the trail is paved so the surface is perfect. Round trip is 26 miles. An optional lunch at the end of the day will be a nice reward. There are many restaurants to choose from at the Waterfront but let’s try Longhorn Steakhouse.. This is a fun bike hike so don’t miss out. There are some sunny areas so bring the sunscreen.
We will meet at the former Mitchell’s Restaurant Parking lot (under the Homestead Grays Bridge) along Waterfront Dr. at the Waterfront in Munhall. It is next to Red Robin, 175 E Waterfront Dr.
As always, we will not be in a race to get to the finish line; we will be looking to have fun biking the trail. You can ride at your own pace because we will always “Meetup” along the trail. Nobody is ever left behind. Some ride leisurely and others are more aggressive but we will not be competing. Our goal is to meet new friends, see nature at its finest, get lots of great exercise, and maybe a tasty lunch too. Join us and put some fun into your life.
