The Power of the Mind: Why Study Buddhism?
Details
"We are what we think.
All that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts we make the world....."
-"Dhammapada" sayings from the Buddha
Why do we want to study Buddhism?
“Saying from the most immediate benefit to us, studying Buddhism can make our minds become pure, stable and holy. At the same time will make our lives become healthy and happy. Can also make our living conditions improved to become better.
If these signs all appear, that means the direction and steps of our cultivation are all correct. If these signs haven't appeared for a long time, then we should examine which aspects of ourselves have problems.
If we have some difficulty that could not be overcome for a long time, some wish that could not be realized for a long time, shouldn't we ask ourselves, did I make the Dharma learned show the function that it should have.
Having a healthy normal mind, for people in our time, is a luxury. How many people have distorted mind and abnormal view of the world and value system, how many people are used to self beautification and self deception. If one's mind is not healthy and emotion is controlled by negative mindset, one will be unable to have the most basic judgement for self and the world.
Studying Dharma we can not only have a healthy mind, but also have a pure, stable, and even holy mind.”
-Lama Namnang Mingjo Dorje Rinpoche
