Let’s kick off the start of the 4th of July with a nice early-morning 4-mile run!

The Palmer Lake Fun Run has been going on for a while, and is a fundraising event for Palmer Lake Elementary School. I’ve never been to this one before, but it looks like a great time. The course runs from the shores of Palmer Lake south down the Santa Fe Trail to the neighboring town of Monument. It’s apparently downhill the entire way!

There is a shuttle bus that will take us from the finish line back to the starting line and our parked cars at the end of the race.

Registering will get you a timed bib, a t-shirt, a finisher’s medal, and some finish line refreshments. Register via the link below. I hope that you can join me!

Come climb with us! Free day pass/gear if you’ve never been*. If you’re looking for a workout change, looking to get over a fear of heights, or looking for a new hobby, come give indoor rock climbing a try!

*Climbing is free at Gripstone if you haven’t been before. Just ask me or another member of the group for a local buddy pass (You also get provided free rental gear, but only one pass can be given per day per member).

If it’s your first time climbing, let us know! We want this to be a fun experience with no pressure; we’ll give you tips and tricks along the way. We accept people of all backgrounds and all skill levels.

I do not normally carry a smartphone on me! I apologize if there are delays in my response time.

I have been and continue to plan on going to Gripstone daily; I intend on hosting meetups for Gripstone Tuesdays and possibly outdoor climbing events soon. I am both Toprope Belay and Lead Belay certified at this gym.

Note: I am not a staff member, nor do I have any sort of endorsement from Gripstone. If you get in with a buddy pass and are interested in a membership at Gripstone, per their policy you only have one week to sign up for the 30 day trial period ($50). If you exceed one week, the trial period will not be available for you, and you will have to go with other paid options to get into the facility.

I've been meaning to get back into playing disc golf for a while and it is always more fun to play with others. For those like me who want to play more or for those who want to give it a try, let's go throw some plastic!

Rampart has a lot of elevation changes and some areas where you may need to climb a little. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty and some closed toe shoes. There are not a lot of trees at this course, so be sure to wear sunscreen if you need it.

While this is a free event, you do need discs to play. I do not have a lot of spare discs, so you'll need to pick some up if you don't have any. I recommend at least a putter and a mid range for some starter discs.
An Innova starter set (putter, mid-range, and driver) is about $25 at Dick's Sporting Goods.
Play It Again Sports has a good selection of individual discs with prices varying depending on plastic quality; start with cheaper stuff, if you catch the bug you'll be buying more!

I'm not going to set an attendee limit, but please know that we will likely need to break into groups if there is a decent turnout. I don't plan on keeping score and this round is just for fun.

There are a lot of good courses around the springs, so if this turns out well we can try to make it a regular thing. I'd like to get back to playing a few rounds a week.
