Here's another casual 5K race with a unicorn theme! This one is great for beginners and is also very kid-friendly for those of you with little ones. There's also a costume contest if you want to go all out and dress up in some sort of fantasy unicorn-adjacent garb.

They do this 5K race in three Denver locations each year. I did the Central Denver race last summer and can vouch that it is a well-organized and popular event! This one is going to be at the Southern location in Highlands Ranch, so less driving for us coming from the Springs.

The course is a very gradual uphill up to the turnaround point, and then it's all downhill on the second half back to the finish line. It is entirely on paved concrete paths through an open space. It's also important to note that there are no water stations along this course (which I think is totally fine for a 5K race), and at the finish line you will need to have your own water bottle or cup to fill for post-race water. If anyone would like to carpool to the race from the Springs, let me know in the comments and we can make arrangements!

Registration gets you a unicorn T-shirt and a sweet unicorn finisher medal that you can wear and show off to impress your friends! There are also refreshments, cotton candy, and balloon animals at the finish line. Don't feel like running a full 5K? There's also a 3/4-mile saunter for those who just want to stretch their legs a bit (you can also totally walk the whole 5K course too). *Climbing is free at Gripstone if you haven’t been before. Just ask me or another member of the group for a local buddy pass (You also get provided free rental gear, but only one pass can be given per day per member).

If it’s your first time climbing, let us know! We want this to be a fun experience with no pressure; we’ll give you tips and tricks along the way. We accept people of all backgrounds and all skill levels.

I have been and continue to plan on going to Gripstone daily; I intend on hosting meetups for Gripstone Tuesdays and possibly outdoor climbing events soon. I am both Toprope Belay and Lead Belay certified at this gym.
