El Paso County Rescue Run 5K/10K
Details
Let's start the new year off right with a nice run on New Year's Day Morning! The El Paso County Rescue Run benefits El Paso County Search & Rescue (EPSCAR), which does an excellent job of rescuing people in the Pikes Peak Region who run into trouble free of charge! This race has been going on for 47 years, and has become a highlight running event of Colorado Springs.
I did this race for my first time just last year, and I had a great time! It's a wonderful way to start the new year off with some physical fitness, and get into a running routine. I did a horrible job at running this one, and had to walk part of it, but by May, I was running my first full marathon! The course goes through the eastern portion of Bear Creek Regional Park and goes up and down a few hills. There's a 5K and a 10K course (I signed up for the 5K myself), and as the race website says, the race will go on whether the weather is "Rain, Snow, or 20 below"! Last year, the course was only a bit icy/snowy and I didn't need to wear traction devices, but they might be needed this year so be prepared! This is also the only race that I have done where they served steaming hot Gatorade to drink (sounds weird, but it hit the spot on a cold morning)!
Race day packet pickup starts at 8:30 AM and the race itself starts at 10:00 AM. A long-sleeved tech shirt is not included in the base registration, but you can add one on for additional money if you like (I love the one that I got last year, so I recommend springing for one). After the race, we can grab some brunch somewhere if there's interest and there are places open on New Year's Day. Hope you can join me!
Note that there is NO registration on race day! You must register online by December 31st! Sign up via the link below:
