Philosophy Discussion Group

This is an open forum for thoughtful, respectful exploration of ideas. We welcome people from all backgrounds who enjoy asking questions, sharing knowledge, and learning together.

Our conversations span philosophy, science, psychology, ethics, history, religion, politics, economics, artificial intelligence, environmental issues, and many other topics. Whether you would like to listen, join the discussion, present a topic, receive feedback on a project, or find collaborators, you are welcome.

The group is intentionally collaborative. Members are encouraged to suggest topics, facilitate discussions, give presentations, recommend readings, help organize meetings, and shape the group's future. No specialized background in philosophy is required—curiosity, intellectual honesty, and respect for others are the only prerequisites.

We currently meet on the first Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), primarily on Zoom. Hybrid or in-person meetings may also be organized as interest allows.

This group was founded at the Washington Ethical Society (WES) in 2018 and has welcomed participants from both the Society and the broader community ever since.

Discussion Guidelines:
We aim to create an environment that is welcoming, intellectually rigorous, and respectful. Participants are encouraged to engage with ideas in good faith, remain open to changing their minds, and help ensure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute.

Topics and viewpoints expressed during meetings are those of the individual participants at the time they are shared. They do not necessarily represent WES, the group as a whole, or the participants' current views.
