Mountain Lion Loop, Golden Gate Canyon SP (~7 mi)
Details
We are heading back up to Golden for this hike, which we have not done in a few years. Fall colors should be turning, but it's also a spectacular loop with great views ๐.
We will start from the trailhead at the Nott Creek lot on the backside of the park, and travel clockwise around the loop. *If you don't have a park pass BRING CASH for the pay box, as you may not drive thru the main park entrance. Depends on which way you go. But in case, pls bring cash w/o a park pass. * I think its 10 or 12 now.
This loop has uphill sections, flats, is both open and in the woods. It's a scenic trip around the park and should offer us great views. There is an optional spur to a high view point (windy peak) if folks opt for this, adding about 1.5 miles.
We should pass through some Aspen stands and a small pond on this route. Backcountry camping sites the last half is also along our hike. Then we dip back down to the parking lot to close the loop.
Hike is rated MODERATE with 1600' of elevation.
Dogs are allowed on leash
Follow parking directions. You may not drive through the main gate entrance (two ways around the main road loop). But if you turn off at Crawford Gulch Road before the entrance, you are going the back way.
Lunch at a nearby restaurant post-hike always an option ๐.
