What weβre about
Welcome to the Oxford Social Circle!
We're a group focused on bringing people together in Oxford. We primarily host monthly Saturday afternoon meet-ups and evening social events. In addition, we have a WhatsApp community for members to connect and organise extra activities.
Who's it for? π€·ββοΈ
Anyone looking to make friends in Oxford is welcome! Whether you're new to the city or just looking to expand your social circle, you'll find a warm welcome here.
What can you expect from us? π€
We're here to connect and make friends just like you. We often organise main events and activities on a weekly basis. Any additional activities will be organised in the WhatsApp Community. The more members are willing to contribute to this, the more you'll have the opportunity to socialise!
What's the goal? πͺπ»
Our goal is to help you meet like-minded people and build your own social network. The meet-ups and WhatsApp community are your platforms to do this. We encourage members to take the initiative and help use this to contribute to organising their own events too!
How much does it cost? π°
Most events are free to attend. However, running the group does have costs, so we appreciate voluntary donations to cover these expenses. It's entirely optional, but your contribution helps keep the group running smoothly. These will be collected annually.
Can I join the WhatsApp group? π³
Members are welcome to join the WhatsApp community, providing they have attended at least three events in this group. Please speak to Kevin at an event if you're interested.
Group Rules π
These are the policies in place for the group:
1) Be respectful of others ππΌ
You'll encounter diverse individuals, some of whom you may not connect with immediately. Instead of arguing, acknowledge your differences. Refrain from harassing members, whether in person or on social media, outside of events.
2) Appreciate what the organisers do β€οΈ
Please remember we are not a business and that all the organisers in the group are hosting events on a voluntary basis. The events we host are for ourselves to enjoy as much as you do.
3) Have a valid photo of yourself in your profile π€³πΎ
There have been multiple occasions where members have received inappropriate messages, all from members without photos. To help prevent this from happening, we ask all members to provide a photo of themselves.
4) Update your attending status correctly β
Not knowing the correct number of attendees can negatively impact the event. Excessive absences and/or gatecrashing events, without valid reasons, will lead to removal from the group.
5) Do not take control of events hosted π€
The organisers already have a plan for the event they are hosting. To prevent any difficulties, respect what the organisers have set up for you. Members are welcome to organise additional activities once the event is over.
6) Do not advertise your own activities in the group without permission π
π»
Whilst we are happy to see additional events, they must apply to the group's structure. If you want to advertise any of your events, contact Kevin.

What to expect: π€
Looking for a fun and relaxed way to connect with fellow members? Join us for a social gathering where you can mingle, chat, play games and make new friends. Whether you are a regular attendee, or new to the crew, you will have a great time in the process.
If the weather is nice, we aim to take advantage of this by sitting on the tables in the garden area.Whilst the prime focus of our event is to socialise, a few basic board games will be available to play that keep us occupied.
Feeling peckish? There will be a diverse range of street food options available, so you can grab a bite while you socialise.
Important Information: β οΈ
- No tables are reserved at the venue
- Repeated no-shows or instances of gatecrashing may result in removal from future group events
- If you require reasonable adjustments, please inform the event organiser in advance
- Guests must be aged 18 or over
The plan: πͺπ»
We will meet at The Yard at 2 PM. Where we are located will be shared once the host has arrived. Members will then have the choice to enjoy socialising, dining and/or gaming until the event comes to an end at 5 PM.Q&A π
Here are the common questions asked relating to this event:I'm new and feel anxious. Is this group not right for me? π¨
Attending for the first time is pushing you out of your comfort zone, so it is normal to feel anxious on your first occasion. We always have a mixture of new and old faces. Regulars are very welcoming and it takes only 2-4 events for most members to feel settled in. Our advice is to give it a shot and reflect afterwards if the event is right for you.How will I find you? π§
Once the organiser arrives, they will share in the comments roughly where they are located, with a description of what they are wearing. Is this a dating event? π©ββ€οΈβπ¨
We accept that relationships will naturally form in our group. However, the primary goal of this event is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone to socialise and have fun with dates being a bonus. What is the Yard? π€¨
The Yard is a food park with seven independent, one-of-a-kind food stalls, offering everything from sizzling street food to gourmet dishes and indulgent sweet treats. Further information can be found here. What food options are there? π
The food options available are:- Casa De Barria π―
- Viva La Pizza π
- Seoul π²
- Sawadee π
- Masala Munch π
- Glut π
Can I bring my own food? π₯―
Whilst members won't have a problem with this, it's unfortunately not always the same with the staff. Therefore, you're welcome to bring your own food, but will be doing so at your own risk.Do I have to buy food? π¨
With the prime focus of the event being to socialise, this is completely optional. What games will be available to play? β οΈ
The following games will be available to play:
Jenga π§±
Uno π
Dominos π²
Bananagram πWill we be doing anything after the event? π»
This will be decided on the day. If anything does happen, it will likely be that we find a nearby pub.Can I bring additional people with me? π©π»βπ€βπ¨π½
Yes you can, providing they are aged 18 or over. Please put them as +1 in your check-in so we can try and find us enough space.Group Rules π
