Crepes & Park Games Social π₯β½π³π
Details
What to expect: π€
The winter is slowly closing, and (hopefully) the sunshine is with us! Let's celebrate a fun-filled outdoor social event in University Park. We're bringing you an afternoon of park games and the option of crΓͺpes from Crepe O Mania.
There's no need to be a park game pro or to full yourself up with crΓͺpes β everyone is welcome!
Important Information: β οΈ
- This event is weather dependent
- Repeated no-shows or instances of gatecrashing may result in removal from future group events
- If you require reasonable adjustments, please inform the event organiser in advance
- Guests must be aged 18 or over
The Plan: πͺπ»
- 2 PM: We will meet just inside the main entrance to University Parks, next to the Crepe van.
- 2:10 PM: Members will have the opportunity to purchase crepes if wish to.
- 3 PM: Members can either join in with the park games, and/or chat with other attendees.
- 4 PM: There will be the option to either take a short walk around the park, or move to the Royal Oak pub.
- 5 PM: The event will come to a close.
Q&A π
Here are the most commonly asked questions relating to this event:
I'm new and feel anxious. Is this group not right for me? π¨
Attending for the first time is pushing you out of your comfort zone, so it is normal to feel anxious. The good news is you won't be alone as we always have a mixture of new and old faces. Regulars are very welcoming and it takes only 2-4 events for most members to feel settled in. Our advice is to give it shot and reflect afterwards if the event is right for you.
Why is it important members update their RSVP (and not gatecrash)? β
Keeping your RSVP status up to date is about being a respectful member of the community. "No-showing" or showing up unannounced creates several issues:
- Venue Limits: We risk overcrowding a venue, which can lead to safety hazards or members being turned away at the door.
- Financial Impact: Some venues can charge us booking fees or require minimum spends based on our expected numbers. If people donβt show up, the event organiser may face unnecessary costs.
- Setting Expectations: Accurate numbers help other members know what kind of atmosphere to expect (e.g., a quiet get together vs. a large party).
- Basic Courtesy: It is simply polite. Think of it this way: how would you feel if you arranged to meet friends, and they didn't show up without letting you know?
How will I find you? π§
Once the organiser arrives, they will share in the comments roughly where we are located, with a description of what they are wearing.
Where will I be able to park? π
Whilst it's not impossible to find parking in Oxford, the limited availability, as well as costs, can make parking incredibly challenging. Therefore, we encourage members to use the most convenient public transport available.
Can I bring additional people with me? π©π»βπ€βπ¨π½
Yes you can, providing they are aged 18 or over. You are also responsible for any potential problematic behaviours from guests you bring with you. Please put them as +1 when you check-in so we can try and find us enough space.
Is this a dating event? π©ββ€οΈβπ¨
We recognise and accept that relationships do form in social settings. However, this is not an event specifically for dating. Therefore, if your only reason for attending is to find your soulmate, this event will not be the right event for you.
Can I bring my pet dog with me? πΆ
Given that we'll be providing equipment for games at the event, to prevent any damage, we kindly encourage members to either not bring pets, or take full responsibility in preventing them from being involved in any of the park games.
Do I have to buy Crepes? π₯
This is completely optional. You can bring your own lunch, or eat before heading out, but this decision is entirely in your hands.
We live in Britain! Surely it's going to rain? β
If this turns out to be the case, we will post an alternative plan. This will likely be attending a nearby pub or cafe and just socialising instead.
I think I've found you, but I'm too scared to approach! Can I have the organisers contact number? π³
As we are not a business, organisers will not be making their personal numbers public. However, we will post in the comments a rough description of where we are located, as well as a description of what the organiser is wearing. The rest is about you stepping out of your comfort zone and approaching!
Why must all members have a recognisable profile photo in the Oxford Social Circle? π€³π»
In the past, we have found that problematic incidents have all involved accounts with fake profiles or no photos.
To keep the Oxford Social Circle a safe space for everyone, we require all members to maintain a clear, recognisable photo of themselves at all times.
We understand that some members may have concerns due to their profession or personal experiences. While we empathise with these situations, we cannot make exceptions. Our responsibility is to ensure the collective safety of the entire group by maintaining a transparent community.
If I sustain an injury during the event, will the organisers provide compensation? π€
Your safety is our top priority, and we go to great lengths to ensure our events are hosted in a secure and welcoming environment. However, because we operate as a community-led group rather than a commercial business, we are unable to provide compensation or insurance coverage for personal injuries. By joining us, members have agreed to take full responsibility for their own health and safety. We encourage everyone to look out for one another and participate within their own comfort levels!
There's too many CrΓͺpes to choose from, which one is the best? π€―
Go for the Jaffa CrΓͺpe, but be warned: it can get messy!
