What to expect: πŸ€”
Join us for a fun walking and pub crawling event through the east side of Oxford. We will begin by meeting where we’ll take a leisurely walk through the city.

We will begin by walking from the city centre towards St Clements and up Headington Hill until we reach Britannia Inn, where we’ll pause for a drink. After enjoying some refreshments, we’ll continue our journey down to the Cowley Road, via Morrell Avenue, stopping at the James Street Tavern for our next drink. After an hour, we will begin walking back to the Oxford city centre, where the event will conclude at the Oxford Retreat.
Important information: ⚠️

  • This event is weather dependent
  • Limited seats are reserved at the pubs
  • Arriving late will lead to members having to catch the rest of us up
  • The total distance walked for this event will be roughly 4 miles
  • Repeated no-shows or instances of gate-crashing may result in removal from future group events
  • Guests must be aged 18 or over

The plan: πŸ’ͺ🏻

  • 2 PM - We will meet at Broad Street, outside Balliol Hall.
  • 2:10 PM - We'll begin our walk towards East Oxford.
  • 3 PM - We will stop at Britannia Inn for roughly an hour.
  • 4 PM - We will begin walking down to Cowley Road.
  • 4:30 PM - We will stop for drinks at The James Street Tavern for an hour.
  • 5:30 PM - We begin walking back to the Oxford city centre.
  • 6 PM - We will stop at The Oxford Retreat, where the event will come to a close.

All times are a rough guidance for this event.

Q&A πŸ‘€

Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions relating to this event:

I'm new and feel anxious. Is this group not right for me? 😨
Attending for the first time is pushing you out of your comfort zone, so it is normal to feel anxious on your first occasion. We always have a mixture of new and old faces. Regulars are very welcoming and it takes only 2-4 events for most members to feel settled in. My advice is to give it a shot and reflect afterwards if the event is right for you.

Why is it important members update their RSVP (and not gatecrash)? βœ…
Keeping your RSVP status up to date is about being a respectful member of the community. "No-showing" or showing up unannounced creates several issues:

  • Venue Limits: We risk overcrowding a venue, which can lead to safety hazards or members being turned away at the door.
  • Financial Impact: Some venues can charge us booking fees or require minimum spends based on our expected numbers. If people don’t show up, the event organiser may face unnecessary costs.
  • Setting Expectations: Accurate numbers help other members know what kind of atmosphere to expect (e.g., a quiet get together vs. a large party).
  • Basic Courtesy: It is simply polite. Think of it this way: how would you feel if you arranged to meet friends, and they didn't show up without letting you know?

How will I find you? 🧐
Once the organiser arrives, they will share in the comments roughly where we are located, with a description of what they are wearing.

Will I require hiking equipment? πŸ₯Ύ
This is going to be a 4 mile walk, along a concrete path, so there is no need to prepare yourself for an intense hike.

Can I bring my pet dog with me? πŸ•
You're welcome to bring your dog on the walk! We just ask that you take full responsibility for them and any issues that might arise.

Can I just meet you at Britannia Inn or James Street Tavern? 🍻
Yes, you can! We aim to arrive at Britannia Inn at roughly 3 PM, and the James Street Tavern at 4:30 PM.

Do I have to return with you to the city centre? πŸŒ‡
If leaving the event early is more convenient for you, you are welcome to leave when you see fit.

We live in Britain, surely it's going to rain? β˜”
If this turns out to be the case, an alternative plan will be posted, likely being socialising in a nearby pub.

Where will I be able to park? πŸš—
Whilst it's not impossible to find parking in Oxford, the limited availability, as well as costs, can make parking incredibly challenging. Therefore, we encourage members to use the most convenient public transport available.

Can I bring additional people with me? πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ€β€πŸ‘¨πŸ½
Yes you can, providing they are aged 18 or over. You are also responsible for any potential problematic behaviours from guests you bring with you. Please put them as +1 when you check-in so we can try and find us enough space.

Why must all members have a recognisable profile photo in the Oxford Social Circle? 🀳🏻
In the past, we have found that problematic incidents have all involved accounts with fake profiles or no photos.
To keep the Oxford Social Circle a safe space for everyone, we require all members to maintain a clear, recognisable photo of themselves at all times.
We understand that some members may have concerns due to their profession or personal experiences. While we empathise with these situations, we cannot make exceptions. Our responsibility is to ensure the collective safety of the entire group by maintaining a transparent community.

Is this a dating event? πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘¨
Whilst we recognise and accept that relationships do form in social settings, we ask members to be mindful that this is not an event specifically for dating. Therefore, if your only reason for attending is to find your soulmate, this event will not be the right event for you.

I think I've found you, but I'm too scared to approach! Can I have the organisers contact number? πŸ“³
As we are not a business, organisers will not be making their personal numbers public. However, we will post in the comments a rough description of where we are located, as well as a description of what the organiser is wearing. The rest is about you stepping out of your comfort zone and approaching!

If I sustain an injury during the event, will the organisers provide compensation? πŸ€•
Because we operate as a community-led group rather than a commercial business, we are unable to provide compensation or insurance coverage for personal injuries. By joining us, members have agreed to take full responsibility for their own health and safety.
