What to expect: πŸ€”
UPDATE 11/4/26: The event will go ahead as planned, but we will now be meeting at Big Society, not the Star.

Looking for a fun and relaxed way to connect with fellow members? Join us for an outdoor social gathering where you can mingle, chat and make new friends.

Whilst the prime focus of our event is to socialise, a few basic board games will be available as an alternative option to keep us occupied. If you're feeling hungry, the Star has a food menu to please your appetite.

With us now in the warmer months of the year, we plan to sit outside in the garden throughout this event. However, if the weather is not pleasant come the day, we will find space inside instead.

Important Information: ⚠️

*No space is reserved at the venue

  • Repeated no-shows or instances of gatecrashing may result in removal from future group events
*If you require reasonable adjustments, please inform the event organiser in advance
  • Guests must be aged 18 or over

The plan: πŸ’ͺ🏻
We will be at the Star at 2 PM. Where we are located will be shared once the host has arrived. Members will then have the choice to enjoy socialising, dining and/or gaming until the event comes to an end at 5 PM.

Q&A πŸ‘€
Here are the common questions asked relating to this event:

I'm new and feel anxious. Is this group not right for me? 😨
Attending for the first time is pushing you out of your comfort zone, so it is normal to feel anxious on your first occasion. We always have a mixture of new and old faces. Regulars are very welcoming and it takes only 2-4 events for most members to feel settled in. Our advice is to give it a shot and reflect afterwards if the event is right for you.

Why is it important members update their RSVP (and not gatecrash)? βœ…
Keeping your RSVP status up to date is about being a respectful member of the community. "No-showing" or showing up unannounced creates several issues:
Venue Limits: We risk overcrowding a venue, which can lead to safety hazards or members being turned away at the door.
Financial Impact: Some venues can charge us booking fees or require minimum spends based on our expected numbers. If people don’t show up, the event organiser may face unnecessary costs.
Setting Expectations: Accurate numbers help other members know what kind of atmosphere to expect (e.g., a quiet get together vs. a large party).
Basic Courtesy: It is simply polite. Think of it this way: how would you feel if you arranged to meet friends, and they didn't show up without letting you know?

How will I find you? 🧐
To find us on the day, simply check the events comments section for a description of where we are located and what the organiser is wearing. In addition, we will also post a link to a WhatsApp group in the comments the day before the event. If you are late, or cannot find us, it is highly recommended that you join this, as we will be sharing a live location tracker there to show you exactly where we are at all times. Please note that once the event kicks off, we’ll only be answering questions through that WhatsApp group.

We live in Britain, surely it's going to rain? β˜”
If the forecast is not promising on the mooring of this event, we will try and reserve us space indoors as an alternative.

Where will I be able to park? πŸš—
Whilst it's not impossible to find parking in Oxford, the limited availability, as well as costs, can make parking incredibly challenging. Therefore, we encourage members to use the most convenient public transport available.

Can I bring additional people with me? πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ€β€πŸ‘¨πŸ½
Yes you can, providing they are aged 18 or over. You are also responsible for any potential problematic behaviours from guests you bring with you. Please put them as +1 when you check-in so we can try and find us enough space.

Can I bring my own food? πŸ”
Whilst members won't have a problem with this, it's unfortunately not always the same with the staff. Therefore, you're welcome to bring your own food, but will be doing so at your own risk.

Do I have to buy food? πŸ•
With the prime focus of the event being to socialise, this is completely optional.

What games will be available to play? ♠️
The following games will be available to play:
Jenga 🧱
Uno πŸƒ
Dominos 🎲
Bananagram 🍌

Is this a dating event? πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘¨
Whilst we recognise and accept that relationships do form in social settings, we ask members to be mindful that this is not an event specifically for dating. Therefore, if your only reason for attending is to find your soulmate, this event will not be the right event for you.

Why must all members have a recognisable profile photo in the Oxford Social Circle? 🀳🏻
In the past, we have found that problematic incidents have all involved accounts with fake profiles or no photos.
To keep the Oxford Social Circle a safe space for everyone, we require all members to maintain a clear, recognisable photo of themselves at all times.
We understand that some members may have concerns due to their profession or personal experiences. While we empathise with these situations, we cannot make exceptions. Our responsibility is to ensure the collective safety of the entire group by maintaining a transparent community.
