What we’re about
Hi and WELCOME to this page. Please, read all the information provided to avoid future misunderstandings. We hope you will join this group.
This group is meant for people 55+ that want to be ACTIVE by participating in events that will also allow you to meet other members with similar interests.
Our goal is to create a group of supporters to create a friendly, safe, loving community. To create such a group, we keep our membership number small to represent members that are actually participating in events.
It IS a GIFT to participate in events created by volunteer organizers & event hosts at no charge to our members and NOT an inherent right when joining the group.
We discourage gossiping of other members or of any other organizers in the meetup community. Members join the group voluntarily and can remove themself if our policies do not meet their needs.
We offer a variety of activities such as hikes, kayaking, board games, music in the park, live music, art faires, theater... You are always welcome to post an event of your preference. Please, let me know if you are interested in becoming an event host.
Please, do not join this group unless you are 100% confident that you will be an ACTIVE member by at least participating on our events 6 times/year.
- Members not active within a year will be removed from the group. We start removing members in November.
- ALL members attending house events will be placed on the "Waitlist."
- If there is a "Waitlist," members with good attendance will have priority on all events followed by members with low participation.
- If there is a "Waitlist," inactive members (not attending any event in over 6+ months) may not be eligible to attend events hosted at a member's home but are welcome to attend public events (hikes, music in the park concerts, etc)
- Members who have an excess of changing their RSVP or "No Shows." "No Shows" are for members not attending events they signed up for OR changing their RSVP 24 hours (48 hours for private events such as a member's home) before the event starts. These members will be removed from the group a year after joining.
- 6+ RSVP changes and 3 "No Shows" may result in removal.
- PLEASE, be considerate and do not use our events as "place holders" while you are in the waitlist for another group.
OUR HIKES:
OUR HIKES ARE NOT INTENDED FOR HIKERS WHO LIKE TO HIKE AS A WAY OF EXERCISING.
WE HIKE TO ENJOY NATURE, THE COMPANY OF OTHER HIKERS AND TO, ALSO, EXERCISE. OUR NORMAL PACE IS 2.5-3 MILES/HOUR DEPENDING ON THE HIKE, THE TERRAIN, AND THE LEVEL OF THE MEMBERS ATTENDING.
OUR FINISH TIME IS AN APPROXIMATION BUT NOT A DEADLINE. MANY TIMES, WE LIKE TO GO OUT FOR LUNCH AFTER THE HIKE.
Out of respect for event hosts who spend time in planning and designing events and for members in the WAITLIST only sign up for events you read the entire information about and are pretty sure you will attend.
DISCLAIMER:
Joining any of our hikes is voluntary and there may be some risks associated with this physical activity. It is each hiker's responsibility to ensure that she/he is physically fit and in good health to participate in hiking activities and to also be prepared with the appropriate water, food, clothing, and first aid supplies. Hike hosts make no warranties about the quality, safety, or supervision of these activities. Hiking organizers/ hosts are not professionals in this field and may occasionally get lost which will extend the time period for the hike.
If you are carpooling, we suggest you only do so with people you know and are comfortable with. Carpooling is at your own risk.
LIABILITY WAIVER:
By signing for the hiking event, you hereby release it's organizers, hosts, and all participants from any and all liabilities, claims, demands or causes of action that you now have, or may have in the future, for illness, injuries, damages, and /or economic loss of any kind or nature, arising in whole or in part out of the activities, advice, or information contained herein . PEDRO'S IN LOS GATOS
MENU
316 N Santa Cruz, Los Gatos, CA 95030
Reservations made for 16 members under my name### A Water Resource
The Los Gatos Creek is one of the few urban streams in Santa Clara Valley which remains relatively intact. It is both a riparian corridor for plants and wildlife and is part of an intricate system of water resources and flood protection.
Surface water runoff from the watershed that drains into Los Gatos Creek is captured by Lexington Reservoir in the Santa Cruz Mountains. That water is then used to recharge, or refill, the valley's groundwater basin.
Reservoir water is released and carried to recharge ponds via the creek. Water held in the ponds seeps or "percolates" through the earth's layers until it reaches underground aquifers. This percolation process helps clean the water before it reaches the underground storage basin.
All along Los Gatos Creek you will see groundwater recharge in action. Water released from Lexington Reservoir flows to Vasona Lake where a system of gates at the dam releases water downstream to the percolation ponds at Los Gatos Creek County Park and Budd, Camden, McGlincey, Oka Lane, Page and Sunnyoaks ponds. Ultimately, the creek joins the Guadalupe River and flows northward to San Francisco Bay.MILES: 4-6 MILES (we can decide later)
