EXPLORATORY POTLUCK COASTAL HALF MOON BAY: MAVERICKS TIDE POOLS & BEACH GAMES

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DOING THIS WITH A GROUP. THE PLAN IS TO SPEND THE DAY BY THE BEACH, EXPLORING, HAVING FUN, TIDE POOLING, AND PLAYING BALL GAMES AT THE BEACH ON OUR WAY BACK
PLEASE, DO NOT RSVP IF YOU HAVE A BUSY SCHEDULE. THIS EVENT SHOULD TAKE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR DAY.
This is a whole day event that will explore parts of coastal Half Moon Bay. The whole idea is to explore and relax.

We will do about 4- 6 miles coastal way one way @ low elevation, search the tide pools for sea anemones, crabs, sea stars.., snack, relax and go back towards Venice Beach for another 4 miles. We will have some ball games with us for those who want to stay longer and play ball.

We will meet at the parking lot of Venice Beach (see photo) and will walk along the gorgeous coast towards Mavericks & Pillar Point Bluff. Low tide at Mavericks is around 11:30 am so I hope to get there in time to enjoy "tide pooling" while searching for the wonders this ecosystem has to offer. You can expect to see sea anemones, star fish, and different types of crabs. Once in Mavericks, we can hike around the trails (3.7 miles), relax at the beach, and explore more before heading back.
Venice Beach seems to have beautiful beaches where we can seat and relax, play some ball games and enjoy a potluck.

TOTAL MILES: Around 11 miles with about 255 ft total elevation

COASTAL WALK INFORMATION:
FIRST PART - COASTAL WALK : 4 miles (each way) & about 200 ft elevation
MODIFIED PART ONE OF COASTAL HIKE: WE WILL MEET AT VENICE BEACH PARKING LOT
SECOND PART - TIDE POOLS AT MAVERICKS: 2-3.7 miles & about 266 ft elevation

WHAT TO BRING:

1. Bring (and leave in your car) some potluck items to share once we are back to Venice Beach. Please, make sure the items are on ice if needed to be. Ice cooler would be useful.
2. Snacks & water for the walk towards Mavericks and back to Venice Beach
3. Sunscreen, water shoes, towel, beach chairs...
4. Beach games. Craig and I have several ball games we can bring and I am sure pickle balls players will enjoy!

I love the ocean and plan to come back to Half Moon Bay for more coastal walks. I hope you can join us!
