Welcome to our philosophy gathering. We’re really glad you’re here. We’re meeting because we believe that asking deep questions is part of what it means to be human, questions about meaning, truth, morality, freedom, and how we ought to live. Our hope is to create a space that feels thoughtful but relaxed, serious but welcoming, a place where curiosity is encouraged, disagreement is respectful, and no one feels pressure to have everything figured out.

In this second meeting, we’ll discuss Chapter 5 from this book by Thomas Nagel. The chapter 'Knowledge' explores the tension between our desire for objective knowledge of the world and our inability to escape our subjective experience.

Thomas Nagel is a philosopher who writes in a relatively accessible way (compared to some others). Still, some parts may be unclear or challenging if you don’t have a background in philosophy, that’s all right! We encourage you to read the chapter and highlight what stands out to you. We believe there’s plenty of interesting material to spark good conversations.
