Hey everyone! This will be one hell of a way to shake off the New Years Eve hangover. Let's suffer for a good cause and raise some money for the RI Special Olympics to kick off 2026.

TDLR Notes: See link below to join our team!! Registration for plungers is $25.00 be sure to pick the 12pm general plunge. Feel free to bring family/friends to watch you plunge. If you don't want to plunge, feel free to come and cheer us on! :D For spectators, donations would be fantastic but not at all expected. Whatever we raise will be great.

The beach has a parking lot but it could fill up so we recommend coming closer to 11 to make sure you get a spot and have time to sign-in.

We formed a team last year, but sadly I (Eddie) broke my leg and was stuck on the beach. This event is madness but in a fun way. Hundreds (maybe even over a thousand) people rush the water at once. Then you can laugh as you watch everyone quickly run back to shore lol Some even stayed in the water. That will not be me lol That is if I don't find a new way to injure myself this year haha

Many probably don't know but our meetup even has a dumb little logo I made awhile back for events like this haha If this gets enough attention maybe I'll get some stickers printed or something to commemorate the occasion lol Please register for the event through our team link below. Minimum for registering is $25.00 but you can pay extra if you want a polar plunge t-shirt from Special Olympics. (I think people donating to your entry also gets you the shirt - plus it also counts towards our team total!) Feel free to bring friends and family to cheer you on! Don't worry about the whole 20s and 30s thing for this event, the more the merrier. If guests/members spectating are willing to donate that's great, but it's not at all expected! Feel free to just come for the fun of it.

RI Special Olympics has areas where you can change into your bathing suit but they don't provide towels or anything like that. Make sure to bring your own. You're going to be cold after the plunge, so please be prepared. There are also firefighters in the water in the event of an emergency.

Last year we regrouped for a drink and some food at a nearby food hall after the plunge. We'll try and do the same this year. I'll have more of a plan closer to the day. I'm sure there will be many people doing the same thing, so we may need to regroup further away depending on our group's size.

RI Special Olympics likely needs no introduction. The national organization is of course known for organizing sporting events for disabled athletes allowing them to compete in a fun and inclusive environment. However, what is lesser known is Special Olympics' other commitments to the disabled community. The organization shines a spotlight on the healthcare gap between the general public and those with intellectual disabilities (ID) who, according to their website, are often denied services and die an average of 16 years earlier than the general population. Additionally, the Special Olympics runs many outreach programs with schools and universities throughout the nation, and also focus on fostering leadership within the community.

Then of course, there's the legal stuff sorry. If you choose to attend this event you are doing so on your own risk, and will not hold the meetup or its host(s) liable for any injuries, damages, etc. you may incur. The shock of the cold is a concern for those of us with medical conditions. You'll also agree to similar waiver with Special Olympics when you register.

Anyway, let's have some fun for a good cause! Please reach out to the host(s) if you have any questions! Thanks!
