Providence Flea Market (Winter) Opening Day & Buttonwoods Brewery!!
Details
Hey everyone! We're well into winter. More than likely many of us are starting to suffer from cabin fever, but don't want to have to shell out an arm an leg on tickets to show or scream at each other at a loud bar. The Providence Flea market is returning from their January hiatus, so it sounds like the perfect change of pace. Let's check out what the local vendors have to offer before heading over to Buttonwoods Brewery for a drink.
TLDR Note: We'll meet in the interior hallway just outside New Harvest Coffee. Please do not take alcoholic beverages outside of the cafe if you order a cocktail while we wait for everyone. Coffee and non alcoholic drinks are ok in the common area. We'll wait for a time for anyone who comes late. Farm Fresh has on site parking but event may be busy. We'll set a regroup area after everyone is done shopping. After we plan to go to Buttonwoods Brewery for drinks (Screaming Unicorn should also be open with food). ISCO is a hard maybe depending on how busy the area is and our group's size since their indoor seating is limited. Links below.
When you think of a flea market, you likely picture a dirty warehouse selling less than mint condition second hand merchandise. The Providence Flea is more akin to a high end art/craft fair than flea markets of the past. The market will be lined with many local artists selling everything from paintings/prints to jewelry and everything in between. You'll also see vintage vendor selling high quality thrifted/second hand/collectable goods, and don't be surprised to see a few food vendors selling spices, jams, and snacks. There's certainly something for everyone, trust us.
The Flea calls District Park in Providence home during the warmer months. If you've been downtown on a Sunday afternoon you've likely seen the sea of canopies just a few steps from the Pedestrian Bridge. The flea is just as good, if not a little more condensed, in the colder months when they bring it indoors to the Farm Fresh Building on Sims Avenue. The hall is buzzing with activity but even with the crowds you won't have any problem perusing at your own pace.
Just an FYI since it's opening day after the break, it may be a bit busier than usual. Farm Fresh has a good amount of onsite parking that's free. If their lot is full then there is street parking in the surrounding area, but probably good to budget some extra time just to be safe. Since we're starting at the opening, hopefully we'll beat the crowds.
Let's meet near New Harvest Coffee Roasters. We'll likely meet in the hallway just beyond the interior entrance to not disturb people sitting the cafe. Keep an eye on the comments for our exact location on the day. We'll likely stand here enjoying some coffee for awhile before milling around to give people time to find parking. Just an FYI, new harvest does serve alcoholic beverages but they must be consumed in the cafe. If you do want to enjoy a cocktail, please don't bring it into the hallway.
We'll likely get split up a bit during the flea, so we'll have a regroup spot we'll post in the comments.
After everyone has had their fill of shopping, we'll walk down the street to Buttonwoods Brewery for a couple of drinks. They also have Screaming Unicorn kitchen that will likely be open if you're hungry. We'll post the links below. They're two separate businesses so the tap list and menu are on separate websites.
Industrious Spirit Company (ISCO) is also across the street but their indoor seating is limited. There's a small chance we could stop in there if it's not busy.
Please reach out to the host(s) if you have any questions either directly or by leaving a comment below. Hope to see you all then!
