We haven’t been here in a while, so it’s time to go back!

This 1.8-mile loop trail has about 400 feet of elevation gain and offers great views and a moderate challenge. The hardest part is an incline about a third of the way in, but the reward at the top is worth it. There’s little to no shade at the top, just expansive views of the surrounding area.

Bring snacks and lunch to enjoy after the hike. Hiking boots and poles are recommended, and dress in layers since the weather can change quickly.

Villanueva State Park is a small, peaceful park with limited parking, so plan to carpool. The entrance fee is $5 per car.

Let’s get back out there and enjoy one of New Mexico’s hidden gems together.
