10k Trail North to overlook with a twist
Details
Going up to near the top of Sandia Crest for this one. The 10k Trail is the highest trail still open and we will take it North to the top of the Crest. I will do a slight deviation near the end, turning north on the Ellis Trail to see some nice views to the North and East and then taking the top of the Osha Loop trail up to the Crest Trail for the overlook. This will be about 6 miles and 800 feet of elevation change, but all at 10000 feet, which should keep us cool. Hopefully leaving at 8 will help us beat the heat and any afternoon thunderstorms.
Bring sunscreen, a hat, plenty of water, and snacks and/or lunch, which we will enjoy at the top. Dogs are welcome on leash. We will carpool from the NW corner of the Walmart parking lot off Eubank and just south of I-40. If you are in the East Mountains, let me know if you want to meet at the trailhead (we should get there about 8:45). There is a $5 fee to park unless you have one of the passes.
