Five Volcano Loop (West Side, ABQ)

The 5 Volcano loop is a trail located in the Volcanoes Day Use Area of the Petroglyph National Monument. The trail explores the chain of x5 dormant volcanoes including Vulcan, Bond, Butte, Black and JA. The hike is rated MODERATE, 6.8 miles in length with a 669ft Elev gain. Estimated completion time is 2-3 hours.
The main loop provides a close-up look at the cinder cones and basalt rock formations. Optional spurs allow for steeper scrambles to the submit of Vulcan and Black Volcano (Note the word optional.....). This trail does not feature petroglyphs.

Please bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Hiking footwear, hat and poles are suggested.
This will be a car pool event. We will meet at the SW corner of the Walmart near Coors and I-40 (near Chili's) prior to our 0830 departure.
