Making Strides: Our First Official Night Hike!
Well, we've reached that time of year again. The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping, and with the time change, it's going to be dark before we even get started.
So there's no avoiding it anymore. Night hiking season is officially here!
For our first official night hike of the season, we're heading to North Domingo Baca Park for a relaxed evening walk.
This is a great place to kick things off. We'll follow a mostly paved loop through the park, with open spaces, desert landscaping, and views of the Sandia Mountains.
And for those of you who haven't joined us for a night hike before, don't worry. We're starting with something easy.
Hike Details
Distance: Approximately 2 miles
Elevation Gain: 101 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Trail Type: Loop
Terrain: Mostly paved paths with some park trails
What to Bring
A headlamp or flashlight is required. Even though this is an easy walk, everyone needs their own reliable light source.
Dress in layers! Temperatures can drop quickly after sunset, so bring a jacket and be prepared for cooler weather.
Comfortable walking shoes and water are also recommended.
Important Parking Information
The park gates close at 9:00 PM, so we'll make sure everyone is finished and out of the parking area well before then. Please keep this in mind when planning your evening.
There's something different about being outdoors after dark. The trails are quieter, the atmosphere changes, and even familiar places can feel like a completely new adventure.
So charge those headlamps, grab your jackets, and come join us as we officially kick off night hiking season!
See you on the trails... after dark!
