Details

Let's kick off 2026 with a Peak District classic. Two perfectly quaint little villages, one moderate hill from which to view the rolling Derbyshire landscape, a meandering river with stepping stones and explorable caves, and more Dales than you shake a hiking pole at.

Note the earlier meeting time of 9:30am, for those who fancy a cuppa in the café before we start the hike proper at 10am.

Bring a torch if you fancy a bit of light cave exploration.

I've marked this as moderately easy as it's a tad shorter with less elevation than usual. But rest assured it's a worthwhile outing for new and experienced hikers alike

Meeting point

9:30am at Hartington Farm Shop & Cafe for a prompt 10am.

Parking

Hartington village has a number of free spaces and on-street parking. Just park responsibly, not blocking any driveways or entrances.

Public transport

Apologies but there are no Sunday buses to Hartington so please ask if you'd like a lift. I encourage car sharing anyway.

Dogs

Well behaved dogs are welcome on the walk and in the pub afterwards.

What to bring

Please bring a packed lunch, water and appropriate clothing/footwear for the weather and terrain. Plus a torch for a spot of cave exploring.
