Come Make New Friends

I was recently talking to someone who was attending their very first meetup event. She reminded me how intimidating coming to something like this could be, and how much courage it took to get through the door.

So, for this event, I encourage people who considers themselves a NEW MEMBER to attend. Existing members are also encouraged to come.

**This might be a particularly beneficial event for a new member to attend, as I will try to personally greet everyone who comes, and also help introduce you into a conversation, if you like. This really helps mitigate any anxious feelings you might have.**

This group was created because I believe connecting with other people is what brings purpose and meaning to our lives. This will be a social event, where you can mix and mingle and perhaps try to make a friend before the night is done.

The event starts at 6pm, but please feel free to stop by anytime while the event is going on. There is no such thing as being late.

I suggest thinking about some interests/hobbies/passions you may want to talk about for this event. I have found that a good start to finding friends is to share a hobby or interest or passion.

This event is in a park, but the area I've picked out is shaded, so hopefully it will be a pleasant night and not too hot.

A couple ideas on how to find the group: this event is at Sellwood Park (NOT Sellwood Riverfront Park). We will be in the part of the park that is close to SE 7th and Lexington, a little south of the baseball field. If you can find the food shack, you'll be in the right place.

There is a parking lot adjacent to the park and a good amount of street parking in the area.

Feel free to bring a lawn chair if you would like to find a group to sit with.

Tonight we are at McMenamins on Broadway, which is an amazing 2nd floor location. It has a great patio which is reserved for our group. The patio is covered, so no need to worry about the sun or excess heat. This patio is a hidden gem in Portland and a very enjoyable space in the summer.

If you are new to Meetup, or if coming to a social event makes you a little anxious, please know I will try to personally greet everyone who comes to this event. And also help introduce you into a conversation, if you like.

The Live Music Around Portland group has invited us to this live music event downtown. So, this will be an opportunity to make a new friend or two while listening to a band and socializing with another meetup group!

The band that will be playing is Special Purpose, and they play a mix of rock, funk, and jazz. They have original material to play as well as cover songs.

The event is free admission, but it is also for 21+.
