Come Make New Friends

I was recently talking to someone who was attending their very first meetup event. She reminded me how intimidating coming to something like this could be, and how much courage it took to get through the door.

So, for this event, I encourage people who considers themselves a NEW MEMBER to attend - whether it is your first time to ANY meetup event, or your first time to this group.

Existing members are also encouraged to come.

**This might be a particularly beneficial event for a new member to attend, as I will try to personally greet everyone who comes, and also help introduce you into a conversation, if you like. This really helps mitigate any anxious feelings you might be experiencing.**

This group was created because I believe connecting with other people is what brings purpose and meaning to our lives. This will be a social event, where you can mix and mingle and perhaps try to make a friend before the night is done.

Please note this event is starting a little later than the typical event.

The event starts at 730pm, but please feel free to stop by anytime while the event is going on. There is no such thing as being late.

I suggest thinking about some interests/hobbies/passions you may want to talk about for this event. I have found that a good start to finding friends is to share a hobby or interest or passion.

Ringler's Pub (a McMenamins location) is excited to host our event. We will be in the back room, that borders SW 14th and Burnside.

A tip for street parking: typically, it is easier to find parking on 16th or 17th, between about Couch and Flanders.

If you have tried other groups on Meetup, and have been disappointed, I encourage you to come to this event. This event/group is different than most social Meetup groups in a few fundamental ways:

1. we have an entire large room all to ourselves. There is no guesswork on who is at the bar/restaurant with Meetup and who isn't. EVERYONE here is with our group.
2. I try to personally greet everyone who comes to each event, and I also introduce you into a conversation, if you like.
3. there are no cliques here; I am very fortunate to attract people to these events that are open to talking to pretty much anyone else.

**So, if you are new to Meetup, or if coming to a social event makes you a little anxious, or even if you are outgoing but a little hesitant because you do not know what to expect, I am ALMOST CERTAIN you'll be glad you came.**

The event starts at 6pm, but please feel free to stop by anytime while the event is going on. There is no such thing as being late.

Also, there is a second event in this group immediately after this - dancing at the Crystal Ballroom (which is upstairs from Ringler's). So, you can also use this as a pre-party for that event.

Ikon Lounge, one of Portland's premiere night clubs is opening early for our group. This is a chance to get dressed up and have a night of mingling and dancing.

The venue is extending us the courtesy of no cover charge from 7pm to 9pm. In order to repay this kindness, I hope everyone would support this venue by making a purchase while you are there.

This will be a social event where you can mix and mingle and join as many conversations as you like. This venue has a dance floor as well as several booths where people can sit and talk.
