Come Make New Friends

I was recently talking to someone who was attending their very first meetup event. She reminded me how intimidating coming to something like this could be, and how much courage it took to get through the door.

So, for this event, I encourage people who considers themselves a NEW MEMBER to attend - whether it is your first time to ANY meetup event, or your first time to this group.

Existing members are also encouraged to come.

**This might be a particularly beneficial event for a new member to attend, as I will try to personally greet everyone who comes, and also help introduce you into a conversation, if you like. This really helps mitigate any anxious feelings you might be experiencing.**

This group was created because I believe connecting with other people is what brings purpose and meaning to our lives. This will be a social event, where you can mix and mingle and perhaps try to make a friend before the night is done.

The event starts at 6pm, but please feel free to stop by anytime while the event is going on. There is no such thing as being late.

I suggest thinking about some interests/hobbies/passions you may want to talk about for this event. I have found that a good start to finding friends is to share a hobby or interest or passion.

We will be on the covered patio, which is also heated. So, whether the night is warm and clear or cold and rainy, this unique space in town is quite enjoyable.

There should be plenty of street parking nearby.

I've always started the Halloween celebrations on the Saturday before Halloween - which would be October 25 this year. So, whether you consider this a pre-party for the actual October 31 festivities, or if this will be your Halloween main event this year, I hope you are able to make it out this night.

There will be plenty of time for socializing and dancing.

*** AND, there will be a cash prize for best costume of the night (as decided by audience participation) ***

There is only one restriction for costumes - no weapons of any kind are allowed, including toy guns, toy swords, toy knives, etc.

Ikon Lounge, one of Portland's premiere night clubs, is opening early for our group. The venue is extending us the courtesy of no cover charge from 7pm to 9pm. In order to repay this kindness, I hope everyone would support this venue by making a purchase while you are there.

If you have tried other groups on Meetup and have been disappointed, I encourage you to come to this event. This event/group is different than most social Meetup groups in a few fundamental ways:

1. we have the entire venue to ourselves for at least the first couple hours. There is no guesswork on who is here from Meetup - EVERYONE is.
2. I try to personally greet everyone to comes to each event, and also introduce you into a conversation, if you like.
3. there are no cliques here; there are always a lot of new folks, and the people who are regulars are very welcoming to first time attendees.
