Monetizing Meetup: Collecting Event Fees

Meetup organizers, we hear you and we’re here to help. We know that organizer and event-related costs have an impact on your ability to build community. In this installment of Meetup Live’s Monetizing Meetup series, we’re discussing ways to use event fees to offset costs.
Join Meetup Live to hear event fee best practices from three experienced organizers, Deborah Paiva, Maxwell Morrongiello, and Mike Giovinazzo. Learn how to assess the right amount for your next event and communicate about event fees with your group members. Be sure to stay for Q&A.
Agenda:
- Introductions (5 mins)
- Discussion (40 mins)
- Q&A session (15 mins)
About Panelists:
Deborah Paiva was drawn to life coaching after going through her own multiple transformations: the death of her first husband when she was only twenty-one years old, major career changes, numerous location moves, and a necessary but heart-wrenching divorce after a long and happy marriage.
She is now focused on supporting others through their transformations including break-ups, divorce or death of a partner, relationship issues, career change, life balance, and stress management. Deborah has worked with hundreds of clients, both men and women, over the past several years, both privately and in conjunction with numerous medical practices in South Florida. She is committed to helping people create healthier, happier lives for themselves. Deborah is the author of: “HEAL YOUR HEARTACHE: 5 Steps to Reclaim Your Life After a Breakup, Divorce or Loss of a Partner.”
Maxwell Morrongiello is the head organizer for the LGBTQ+ meetup group The “Non-Scene” Friends. With almost 10,000 members in the Greater Boston Area, they run fun events for the LGBTQ community including mini golf, pottery painting, game nights, dinner and a movie, karaoke brunch, and more. Max enjoys connecting people together. Max has a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in public administration, and is a huge star trek fan. Max is a mental health advocate who strives to connect people together, and gave the 2019 MassBay Community College Commencement address on overcoming adversity.
Mike Giovinazzo is an avid photographer with 40+ years of experience, Mike now runs 3 Meetup groups in Ottawa Canada. Each group caters to different photographic interests and runs between 1000 & 3000 members. He has been doing Meetups for over 10 years and it’s not unusual to have 3 to 5 events in one week.
Mike uses Meetups as a way to orchestrate very creative events and artistic events that would be cost-prohibitive if any one photographer was executing these photoshoots on their own. Via the Meetup groups, he offers hands-on guidance to new as well as experienced photographers alike.
His greatest reward is seeing photographers grow in skill and confidence; sharing beautiful work that they likely could not have achieved without Mike’s patient support and guidance.
