What we’re about
What are the seven rules of Melbourne Write Club? I am glad you asked!
- Be honest in your criticism.
Remember: honesty doesn’t mean being harsh — you get what you give. If you expect honest, quality feedback, you need to be able to give it to others. - Don’t take criticism personally.
Learn to tell the difference between somebody’s opinion and constructive criticism. - Write regularly but remember, there's always something to learn. A creative mind is always growing.
- Write what you want to write. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb. That's where the fruit is.
- Any fool can be a bad writer. You should strive to be a great one. Practice makes perfect!
- Speak up and share your words/story no matter how painful, silly or how embarrassing you might think it is. A good writer isn't afraid of others laughing... they are only afraid of boring the reader with their words.
- Talk about us. “The last rule of Write Club is to help us spread the love. Follow us on Instagram, like our posts, and tell other writers about what we do. Love your writing community, but love Melbourne Write Club the most!

PS. (could be the 8th rule) Write whatever you like (poetry, novel, screenplay, theatre script, flash fiction, seriously whatever floats your boat) as Write Club is here to support you and encourage you.
