About us
We are the Memphis chapter for the National Real Estate Investors Association.
Memphis Investors Group is a 501c6, non profit organization, that is led and ran by volunteers. Why? because our mission is to provide education, networking and learning opportunities in to those interested in the various faces of real estate investing, NOT to sell you a property.
As part of a vibrant national network, we'll often bring national speakers to speak about the latest trends in RE to our group. Ironically, many of the so called "Turnkey Providers" around the country are from Memphis and had their humble beginnings right here with us since we first started in 2001! Many of our local speakers are legends in the making!
Our main events are the 2nd Thursday of each month, and provide workshops, of various topics, with certifications towards being a Preferred Housing Provider, each 2nd Saturday of the month.
Come see why we regularly are voted Memphis #1 Real Estate club!

MIG Monthly Meeting - Horror Stories from Real Estate Investors
First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Boulevard, Memphis, TN, US# MIG Monthly Meeting — Thursday, October 8
Real estate investing is full of opportunity, but every investor eventually discovers that the most valuable lessons often come from the deals that didn’t go as planned. At our October MIG Monthly Meeting, three investors will pull back the curtain and share the real stories they usually only tell other investors behind closed doors.
Horror Stories from Real Estate Investors Presented by Harlan Vaughn, Walter Jones, and Jamie Parker
These are first‑hand accounts of deals that went sideways, tenants who surprised them, mistakes that cost money, and situations that taught lessons the hard way. You won’t find these insights in books, podcasts, or classes — only from investors who lived through them.
Our panel will walk through actual scenarios they’ve faced, explain what went wrong, what they would do differently, and how you can avoid the same pitfalls. This meeting is always one of MIG’s most talked‑about events because it’s honest, practical, and packed with real‑world takeaways you can use immediately.
What You’ll Learn
• How to spot early warning signs before a small issue becomes a major problem
• Real examples of challenges that escalated and how better communication, documentation, or screening could have changed the outcome
• Deal structure surprises that created unexpected consequences
• Practical risk‑management steps to protect your properties, your cash flow, and your sanity
• Recovery strategies that helped stabilize the situation and move forward
This session is designed for investors at every level — new, experienced, or somewhere in between. Whether you’re a housing provider, flipper, private lender, or simply exploring real estate investing, you’ll walk away with sharper instincts and a clearer understanding of what to watch out for.During the Educational Minute, Walter Jones will also share his personal experience with MSI Insurance, one of National REIA’s sponsors, and how their services supported him during a real‑world situation.
Be sure to arrive by 6:00 pm and take part in the Early Bird Session - Ask the Pros with long-time investors Fong Lum and Tim Yancey.
Doors Open at 5:30 PM
Come early to meet fellow investors, ask questions, and build connections. Many of the best conversations happen before the meeting even starts.
