I would like to kayak the Russian river in the moving section below Healdsburg to Wohler Bridge, which a few miles up from Forestville. Join me. In the summer this is a very popular boat rental stretch of the river. Please plan on kayaking about 3-4 miles per hour. We will stop for a lunch break, and maybe a picture or two. With the short days, we need to keep moving.

What to Bring: Kayak or Canoe, Paddle, PFD (must be worn while we are on the water), water-type shoes, Water, Snack, Hat/sunscreen, Dry change of clothes in your car for after the paddle (just in case of getting too wet).
After setting up we shuttle cars to the parking at take-out, a 10-mile drive, and pay the parking fee unless you have a Sonoma County parking Pass.

One car comes back with the drivers and then we kayak the river. At the end, one driver brings the others back to their cars at put-in. Please plan on staying with the meetup until all are back to their vehicles.

Here are some of my memories about previous runs of this river. The river run starts with a swift current drop around a bend under the 101 bridge. At this spot many inexperienced & experienced people have tipped their boats and swam. Further downstream there are some bends in the river with strainers, I've seen an experienced person in our party lose their paddle after tipping their boat. The paddle was lost at the bottom of the river. Remember the kayaker's slogan: "Everyone swims". Inflatables are slower than hard shells, and I'm an inflatable kayaker. Be aware of the pace of the group, we paddle as a group. There are no easy exit points between the beginning and the end, unlike other sections of the Russian river that are next to the highway. I've mapped this at 9 miles. Here is my May 7th, 2023, link to my alltrails for Memorial to Steelhead, which is a further takeout than what we plan for Oct 1. Link is here: Memorial
