A Short Story.
There was once a man drowning in depression.
His family brought him to us, hoping we could help, wake him, shake him, pull him back into the light. We tried everything we knew. Yet nothing seemed to reach him. He retreated further into himself, resigned to a corner of his own suffering.
Over time, frustration grew. We began to change, becoming people we did not recognise. And eventually, we made a difficult choice to disengage and return him to his family. Not because we gave up on him, but because we needed to take care of ourselves.
Weeks turned into months. Without our intervention, the man slowly began to change. Progress emerged unexpectedly.
This January, Men’s Circle reflects on a hard but necessary lesson:
- What does it mean to let go without abandoning?
- How do we disengage without bitterness or guilt?
- Can we trust life and the divine to unfold in its own time?
Sometimes, the deepest act of care is knowing when to step back.
To let go. To let live.
And to recognise that life, in its own way, often meets us with GRACE.
