Estrangement is a different kind of pain.
Not quite death. Not quite separation.
A person still exists somewhere in the world and yet emotionally, relationally, spiritually they are gone.
Sometimes we are the ones being cut off.
Sometimes we are the ones who walk away.
Rarely is it a sudden decision. More often, it is grief accumulating quietly over time.
To be estranged can feel profoundly lonely, shameful, and guilt-ridden.
Like being thrown out of the universe.
Aimlessly wandering with no home left to return to.
Modern conversations around βno contactβ increasingly frame estrangement not as revenge or punishment, but as an attempt at self-preservation when boundaries, safety, or emotional wellbeing repeatedly fail within a relationship. At the same time, estrangement carries its own grief, ambiguity, and lifelong emotional consequences for everyone involved. [1]
This is not a space to decide who is right or wrong.
Not a place to force forgiveness or reconciliation.
It's about finding your way 'home'.
