We believe that men's groups are of vital importance right now, especially considering the negative effects of social isolation; unhealthy and addictive habit-forming behaviour; overthinking and suicidal ideation; as well as the huge opportunities and benefits that men in conscious conversation and community can bring.

Starting your own men’s group might be intimidating, daunting, and also very very exciting! We’ve supported lots of people in launching and managing their own groups, who have often said that the thought of it was scarier than actually doing it.

WHY MEN'S GROUPS?

Often, when men have problems they isolate and pretend that everything’s ok, usually out of fear of being rejected, humiliated or abandoned. Their issues don't go away. At MenSpeak we train people to 'sit with what is' and learn from one-another's experiences as they share their journeys beyond shame or blame.

Men often prefer non-hierarchical 'side-by-side' communication and find it easier to open up in male only spaces, amongst peers. Often, the only services offered to them are talking therapies which are less interactive, face-to-face with 'an expert' and often staffed by women.

Men's groups are a confidential, non-clinical and non-hierarchical means of empowering men to live beyond their issues into healthy, connected lives.

Most people don't know how to handle anyone opening up and speaking their truth - let alone men, with all their stereotypical prejudices of 'cool, calm and collected'. There's a tendency to try to 'fix' by saying things like: "You shouldn't be feeling like that" or "Man up and pull yourself together" - both of which cause the man to shut down, suppress and often withdraw.

WHO'S IT FOR?

This accredited training earns therapists CPD points. It's ideal for coaches, masculinity experts, leaders of men - including any man or woman who wants to empower men through sharing and listening. You don't need to be a professional or qualified to become a facilitator, anyone can take these skills into their professional and personal communities, social and special interest groups.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

During this full day introductory workshop you will experience an Online MenSpeak Men's Group and learn how to facilitate your own groups, your own way, using the tools that we will share with you and leaving you space for your own style, as you meet your own people where and how they are.

You’ll learn how to draw forth deeper discussion and respectfully respond from your centre, without judgement or influence.

You’ll learn about group dynamics, body language and male psychology, time-keeping, setting up the (Zoom) room, holding a safe space with professional boundaries.

The skills you’ll learn will have a far broader reach than just men’s groups. You can apply them anywhere: your home, workplace, community, educational, professional groups and meetings.
