Owyhee Dam / Water Distribution System Tour
Details
Thanks to the Owyhee Irrigation District, we were able to schedule a 2-hour group tour of the Owyhee dam, canals, tunnels, unique 'glory hole' spillway, hydro plant, pumping plant & water systems designed to supply the area's farms with thousands of acres of water each year.
Come take a step back in time & learn about the amazing ingenuity of the people who designed and constructed the Owyhee Project
We will meet at the carpool location in Nampa at 11:30 am to be at the Dam Visitor Center by 1 pm.
We will likely need to park at Owyhee Dam Park, 1475 Owyhee Lake Road, Nyssa, OR as gate will likely be closed. We will wait for the gate tender.
Note: Some mapping applications will not handle the address, but there is only one road in/out.
Disclaimer:
The Owyhee Dam construction took place from 1928-1932, the primary focus of the design & facilities was on the maintenance and economy of materials and space. As a result of these areas of focus during construction, the dam's inner workings can be damp, dark, confined, and closed off with most areas only accessible by stairways.
Tours inside the Dam require walking on wet & uneven surfaces, climbing stairs & being in a confined dark space for some time. Some people with physical limitations may not be able to participate in the Dam Tours.
