Blue Lake Alpine Adventure

Details
Join us for a Alpine Adventure. part hike, part picnic, and a fun alpine lake at ~7400 Ft Elevation on top of Snowbank Mountain near Cascade Idaho. The hike is only about 2-3 miles round trip and is easy to intermediate with some steep sketchy sections but mostly flat or gently sloping. The area is sub-Alpine and has lots of wildflowers and patches of snow. It also has small granite islands in the lake you can swim to and a short ~10 foot rock cliff you can jump off into the water. This hike is not for beginners or people with orthopedic/ambulatory issues.
Here is the plan:
We will meet in the south side of the Winco parking lot in Eagle near Hwy 55 at 9AM to carpool. The Snowbank Mtn Road is a steep dirt road so if you have a truck or 4WD vehicle please bring it with a full tank of gas and offer to be a carpool driver. 4WD is not required but makes the drive more comfortable because the road is washboarded.
We will drive up to the trialhead and clean up whatever trash we can find at the trailhead/bathroom and then hike down to the lake for lunch, swimming, and jumping off rocks into the water. We will walk around the lake and clean up any trash we find at the campsites and clip brush off the trial with hand clippers. Not a lot of work but we will do what we can since we are there anyway.
If you have never been to this area before now is your chance to go. It is only open a few months out of the year because it is high elevation and very snowy. Lots of exposed granite cliffs and outcrops and sub alpine wildflowers and vegetation.
Things to Bring:
- Daypack, water, lunch, beverages, snacks
- Light Jacket it will be 15-25F cooler than Boise
- Hiking boots, sun hat, bug spray, trekking poles (optional)
- Swimsuit and water shoes if you plan to wade or swim.
- Hand clippers (optional) for brush trimming
- Cash $$ to contribute to your carpool driver.
NOTE: Do not sign up for this event unless you are really going to go. Bad things will happen to No Shows and people who cancel at the last minute.
NOTE: Because of road and bridge construction we may be delayed so do not sign up if you need to be back in Boise before 6-7 PM.
