***VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY***

Help restore wildlife habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area by volunteering with Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDF&G) to collect sagebrush seeds. This seed will be used to rebuild our seed reserves so that we are well prepared to rehabilitate future fires as they occur.

For Saturday, December 20, we plan to collect sagebrush seed by hand by stripping plant material from seed stalks and placing it into a five-gallon bucket (provided). This isn't a very laborious process, and we generally are able to work on terrain that accommodates most ability types. However, these projects involve some hiking off-trail on lumpy ground, and bending over while collecting seed. Training is provided.

We plan to have holiday goodies again this year in a heated garage alongside our fellow volunteers! We will be onsite/outdoors collecting seeds and mingling from 9:30 am until about 12:30/1:00 pm.
There is a restroom on site.

Exact Volunteer location will be provided to everyone that registers using the sign-up form. Expect the project to last about 4 hours at the collection site.

What IDF&G provides
Training is provided and crew leaders will be there to help. This project will involve some hiking, working on uneven terrain and slight bending over while collecting seed.

We will provide 5-gallon buckets, old leather work gloves, and seed bags. If the weather is cold, consider wearing your own thin-liner gloves under our leather gloves, or bring your own old ski gloves for the job. Sagebrush flower and chaff material is somewhat resinous and you won't want that on your favorite gloves! If you have one, bring a clip, carabiner or short cord to attach the bucket to your belt or belt loop.

What you should bring
Come prepared! Please remember to dress for winter weather. You will need to bring layered clothing, rain gear or a jacket/coat, boots or sturdy shoes, a hat, and gloves. It could be rainy, snowy, breezy and cool OR it could be sunny and moderate. Volunteer activities are subject to change due to weather and road conditions.

You will need to bring a sack lunch and water for the day. Bring a day pack to hold your food and extra layers.
