Walking Tour of Boise's Phosphorus Removal Facility, Parma, ID
Details
Join us for an escorted, outdoor walking tour of this model 49-acre facility operated by the City of Boise since July 2016 to enhance the water quality of the Boise and Snake Rivers.
Commonly referred to as the "Dixie Drain Project", this first-of-its-kind project in the U.S. was designed in part to meet regulatory discharge limits, but also serves to improve the rivers for human recreation and wildlife.
Located 34 miles downstream from City of Boise’s primary water renewal facilities, the facility collects ground and surface water from agricultural operations in the lower Boise River watershed, removing 140 pounds of phosphorus per day (10 tons annually).
Remember to dress for the weather...
Please wear closed-toed shoes and long pants.
