Help restore wildlife habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area by volunteering with Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDF&G) to plant sagebrush seedlings.

What IDF&G provides
Training is provided and crew leaders will be there to help. Fish and Game will provide all the tools and equipment (planting bar, shovels, buckets, and trowels) required for planting and will provide used leather planting gloves. Bring your own knee pad(s) and/or other favorite planting tools if you'd like.

What you should bring
The weather can vary drastically in early spring. Please come prepared for a short hike. We will be working on varied terrain; our worksite will feature a small section of relatively level ground, but we will predominantly focus on a handful of steeper drainages.

You will need to bring a sack lunch and water for the day. Bring a day pack to hold your food and extra layers.

BACKGROUND: The Valley Fire rapidly scorched 10,000 acres across some of the most heavily used mule deer winter range on the Boise Front. We need your continued help to rehabilitate the landscape for wildlife. You will be part of a multi-year, multi-pronged effort to restore habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area.

With the help of many volunteers, we collected 2,600 lbs of native plant seed that we used to aerially seed a large swath of the State portion of the Valley Fire burn in 2024/2025. We further strengthened our rehabilitation efforts with many seedling planting events throughout the spring and fall of 2025. We are continuing to build on this work with two additional planting events scheduled for this spring in which we will plant bitterbrush, sagebrush, and a mix of native bunchgrasses.
