Tour of Idaho Department of Agriculture Laboratories
Details
Join a lucky 20 participants on this interesting tour of the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) located right here in Boise, near the Old State Penitentiary. We will divide into two smaller groups and tour the Seed lab and the Animal Health Lab.
The ISDA conducts laboratory analysis for the state’s livestock producers, farmers, veterinarians, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, USDA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. The diagnostics laboratory also conducts the testing required for beef cattle that goes to processing plants, as well as the testing required for many animals to cross state lines.
Seed Lab
The tour typically follows the life of a sample in our lab, starting with an overview of what kinds of samples we receive, how they are checked in, and then how our different tests (e.g., purity) are conducted during germination.
