What we’re about

Assisted Self practice!
Mysore is the city in South India where Ashtanga Yoga originates from and is taught and practiced in its most authentic and traditional way. The essence of Ashtanga Yoga lies in a Mysore-style practice because the most guidance is transmitted in silence through hands-on adjustments. This minimizes the distraction from a student’s meditative experience. A practitioner learns safe alignment principles of each pose by FEELING rather than following verbal or visual cues. In this way, attention is drawn inward to the sensations of the body and breath to deepen the focus. When this inward attention is sustained, yoga is revealed.

In Mysore class, students learn Ashtanga Yoga sequence in the group setting under the guidance of a teacher. To ensure safety, the teacher works with students individually and modifies the practice based on their abilities and physical limitations. Postures are taught gradually one at a time to help the student memorize the sequence. Initially, new students will get more attention to help them strengthen their knowledge of the system. As they get more comfortable and become more independent, they will receive adjustments and assistance when required. This is where students cultivate their inner strength with self-effort and acquire confidence, physical strength, flexibility, stamina and peace of mind.
Note: Students may practice anytime between scheduled hours. There is no appointed start time.
