About us
MDGN is a free and open group dedicated to bringing people together to play / learn games, have fun, and make friends. One of the top ten biggest gaming Meetup groups in the world we have monthly game nights / parties on Saturdays in Sterling Heights, as well as many special gaming and social events all around Metro Detroit. From the simplest party games to the most complex strategy games all styles of gaming are represented in our 600+ tabletop / board game library and 300+ video game library.
You don't need to own or know how to play any games to attend our events - we will gladly teach you. That being said, you're always welcome to bring your own games too. You also don't need (but are always welcome) to bring someone with you because we can introduce individuals, couples, and friends to play together in a safe, chill environment. Ask around for our founder Rob (Big O) if you ever need any help.
In addition to our monthly board game nights throughout the year we have biannual video game nights in March and August, an Adult Easter Egg Hunt in April, and a biennial New Year's Eve Party in even-numbered years. Most of our monthly game nights double as annual themed parties including Wine & Unwind (February), Cultural Exchange (May), Summer BBQ (June), Growler Party (September), Halloween Party (October), Thanksgiving Potluck (November), and Christmas / Holiday Party (December). Other past events have included disc golf, bowling, trivia, karaoke, laser tag, escape rooms, paint and sip, movies, pub crawls, camping trips, beer olympics, gaming / comic / anime conventions, renaissance festivals, Detroit Zoo event(s), and beer and hard cider festivals.
Our group is currently based in Sterling Heights but we have members and events all over the Metro Detroit area including Clinton Township, Warren, Roseville, St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe, Grosse Pointe Woods, Shelby Township, Fraser, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, Harper Woods, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Southfield, Harrison Township, Troy, Berkley, Rochester Hills, Oak Park, Clawson, Grosse Pointe Park, Detroit, and more.

***The Rules aka How to Get Banned from MDGN***
- Harassing other members at our events, online, or elsewhere is strictly prohibited. We're here to play games, have fun, and make friends in a safe, welcoming environment. Please report any creepers so we can ban them immediately.
- Discrimination based on race, color, ancestry, national origin, religious creed, physical disability, relationship status, sexual orientation, gender, age, et cetera. If you find the thought of (spending time with) people different from you uncomfortable you've come to the wrong place!
- Being extremely disruptive, for example - intense body odor, toxic / violent / dangerous / destructive behavior, stealing, basically anything not listed elsewhere that would cause major problems or scare people away en masse.
- A pattern of last minute cancellations, no shows, or showing up without RSVPing. We put a lot of work into our events many of which end up with a waitlist and it's incredibly disrespectful to the host(s), other people interested, and the community in general.
- Joining our group for the primary purpose of promoting your own group, commercial enterprise, organization, kickstarter / crowdfunding, et cetera. We welcome proposals for joint events with other groups, commercial sponsorships, mutually beneficial partnerships, donations including promotional copies of games (with or without strings attached), and of course promoting the endeavors of our regulars but we didn't spend years building this community just to advertise for others for free.
