🎬 90s, Baby! @VIFF Theatre 🍿
Hi all, the VIFF Theatre is running a 90s series featuring a stacked selection of big hitters from the decade and cult favourites.
This event page is to help people connect at any screenings they might be attending.
There are season passes and 10 film packs available that’ll save money on multiple visits.

This event format is a test run for the 2026 Vancouver Film Festival that’ll take place later in the year, so any feedback is appreciated!

Some info regarding the VIFF screens:
VIFF Cinema - this is the theatres main and biggest viewing space with a 33ft screen. 169 seats that includes balcony seating. Comfy seats!
Wheelchair accessible spaces

Lochmaddy Studio Theatre - 17ft screen. Smaller college style auditorium screening space. 41 seats that fold down.

Any events created for this series will be in separated to make it easier to coordinate.

🎥 Niagara - July 30th @6:45pm
The Cinematheque

The Cinematheque is launching this year’s Noir Series with a Marylin Monroe Classic!

‘Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotten are a maniacally mismatched couple vacationing on the Ontario side of Niagara Falls in Henry Hathaway’s delectably tawdry thriller, a lurid Technicolor noir brimming with dark deeds and “a raging torrent of emotion”. Monroe, in a rare bad-girl role, is slip-clad Rose, a scheming vamp with murder on the mind.’

“Marilyn Monroe’s eroticism [in Niagara] is an act of violence, a distortion of the natural and expected heterosexual order so extreme as to appear destructive.”

For their opening Noir Movie, the theatre puts on a jazz courtyard shindig to precede the screening. Grab a drink, indulge in the snacks or grab some merch, it’s a great way to kick things off!
Entry to shindig is included with your ticket for Niagara. I’d recommend pre-booking as it sells out every year.

🎥 As part of their 90s film series the VIFF is showing a mystery movie followed by some trivia from that decade!

It won’t be a film that’s already featured within their series so sound off in the comments what you think the film could be!

Before the film I figured we can take a trip to Fritz (best poutine in town) as it’s right around the corner from the VIFF 😋.

I’d recommend grabbing a ticket early as this will likely sell out.

Let’s meet outside Fritz European Fry House (718 David Street) at 5:30pm, if the weather is nice we can chill out and eat at the Emery Barnes Park. We’ll plan to be outside the theatre entrance around 6:30pm.
VIFF theatre has a first come first serve for seats so we’ll join the line up before the doors open.

🎥 Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

Hi all, this is a place holder event until tickets for The Rio go live.
I’m aiming for the Friday 14th date, but the date, time and location may possibly change.

After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director (Hannah Einbinder, Hacks) for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie's star (Gillian Anderson, The X-Files), a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

Looks very surreal and a meta-slasher starring Gillian Anderson should make for a perfect combination.
