Details

Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website

The first and last few miles take place in the open fields of the Low Weald, with the majority of the walk taking place in the beautiful rolling hills of the High Weald - passing through the attractive Wealdon settlements of Horsmonden, Goudhurst, Cranbrook, Sissinghurst, Frittenden and Headcorn, as well as the grounds (along a public bridleway) of Sissinghurst Castle.

Bring a packed lunch. The lunch stop will be at the town of Cranbrook at around 12-13 miles distance where there are local facilities for drinks / snacks only, and there will also be a short stop at the village of Horsmonden at around 5 miles distance.

A lengthy walk that will be done at a reasonably fast pace, but the total ascent is only just over 400 metres with no particularly steep climbs. Choice of pub or tap room at the end of the walk.

Travel: Take 9:34 from London Charing Cross (Waterloo East: 9:37, London Bridge: 9:43, Sevenoaks: 10:08) arrive at Marden at 10:30.

Buy a return to Headcorn.

When there are issues with the trains, services tend to start to from London Bridge, so please try to get the train from there if possible.

Meet just outside the main station building at Marden. There are no toilets at the station, so please use the facilities on the train.

Grading: Strenuous.
For an explanation of the gradings, please see the FAQ - please consider both the length and grade when choosing a walk.

Finish point: Headcorn
