The Meandering Medway (16 miles/Moderate)

Details
Metropolitan Walkers is part of the Ramblers, Britain's walking charity. All welcome for 3 'taster' walks, after which please join the Ramblers - info on the Met Walkers website
A laid-back (and mostly) riverside walk through the bucolic Medway Valley along the banks of the River Medway from Tonbridge to Teston, followed by a very moderate climb over the Greensand Ridge (where a stunning view across the High Weald awaits us), and ending with a gradual descent into the picturesque village of Yalding. Lunch is at 8.5 miles distance where there is a cafe and a pub (for drinks only), but the pub is likley to be very busy if it is a sunny day, and there will also be a mini stop at Teston Bridge Country Park (12 miles distance) where this is a public toilet and small kiosk. The walk will not be at a fast pace and is completely flat (apart from a very moderate climb near the end). Pub at the end of the walk - which is the same as the lunch stop pub.
Please bring a packed lunch.
OPTIONAL DROP OUT POINT: For anyone not wanting to commit to the full 16 miles, the walk passes Wateringbury Station at 10.5 miles distance, which is on the same train line as the end point station.
Transport: Take the 9:34 from London Charing Cross (Waterloo East 9:37, London Bridge 9:43), arrive at Tonbridge at 10:16.
Buy a return to Yalding, but for anyone who thinks they may leave at the dropout point, best to buy a return to Wateringbury (it is the station before Yalding).
Meet at the side entrance of Tonbridge Station (on Barden Road on the north side of the station) - when alighting from the train, go left next to the stairs at the end of platform 3.
Grading: Moderate.
For an explanation of the gradings, please see the FAQ - please consider both the length and grade when choosing a walk.
Finish point: Yalding
