In 1992 rave music was at its commercial peak. As a result we were seeing records sampling children's TV themes, a sound described as "Toytown Techno". The reaction from the underground was to take the music in a darker direction, a sound that some described as "Ragga House" or "Ragga Techno". It also led to the infamous Mixmag headline "Did Charly Kill Rave?".

There was also an increasing divide between ravers and clubbers. Mixmag described ravers as being into "road drill nightmare noise" and clubbers into "plod-along garage". Then they came up with their own genre to describe the music they liked, Progressive House. What exactly was Progressive House though?

On this walk we'll be exploring the role London played in this story.
