Join us for this point to point hike, the next in our Hudson River Series from one of the spots where we previously left off!
There is a whole lot to see when walking though along trails, back streets, and towns on the Hudson River.
This time, much of the route will be the sort of proposed extension of the Highlands Trail from where it currently terminates at Cornwall on Hudson to Beacon.
We'll meet at the Memorial Park parking lot at Fishkill Ave and Robert Cahill intersection. From there, we'll shuttle with as few cars as possible to our beginning point in Cornwall on Hudson.
We'll pass through a little town park at the beginning, and then follow back streets to Dock Hill and the Highlands Trail route.
We will reach Donahue Memorial Park, and then hike along the waterfront a bit.
Next, we have to follow the Shore road for a bit, which is pleasant, and then side trip over to Plum Point Park and Sloop Hill Unique Area. There are two loops there, and excellent views on the Hudson River featuring the Twin Sentinels of Storm King Mountain and Breakneck Ridge in prominent view.
We'll make our way back to the west, and pass though cemeteries including Woodland and Calvary.
We then head back down to the waterfront and possibly stop at Newburgh Brewing Company. We'll visit a famous headquarters of George Washington, and then make our way along the waterfront north toward the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
This is one of the bridges we have never done the walkway on, so we'll cross the Hudson here.
Once on the other side, we'll follow side streets down to and through Beacon Memorial Park where we finish.
This promises to be another interesting and diverse hike.
Distance will be about 15 miles.
