The Art of Photography Miami (Field Workshops)

Join us for an ALL NEW in-depth presentation of Fine Art Photography from Martin Osner, a renowned South African artist, gallery owner, photographer and educator. Interestingly, many of us will relate to this story and journey. As an instructor of Fine Art Photography, he shares the same principles of art and design that we incorporate in The Art of Photography with his students in South Africa.

In this presentation he speaks to explain; So, what is Fine Art Photography? Martin Osner presents an in-depth discussion that explains the difference between photography, art photography and fine art photography. “Where is the line between photography and fine art photography?”

"So, what is Fine Art Photography?" Osner sees this as a process, wherein photography and the camera play their part in the creation of high-level art. He presents an enlightening and in-depth discussion to answer these fundamental but complicated questions. In addition, as a respected artist and gallery owner, Martin Osner offers valuable advice and guidance on how to embark on your personal journey into the world of Fine Art Photography.

You are welcome to join our group in Coconut Grove for a great photo adventure to practice nautical, street, architecture, and documentary photography event.

MEETING LOCATION: In front of Glass & Vine Restaurant in Peacock Park (2820 McFarlane Rd., Miami 33133). We'll meet here and walk as a group along various locations such as: the Marina, Peacock Park, the Meditation Garden, CocoWalk, Coconut Grove Playhouse, Main Hwy - Grand Ave… and time permitting, The Barnacle Historic State Park.

BACKGROUND: Coconut Grove is the oldest permanent settlement in Miami-Dade. New residents were lured here with the Homestead Act in the late 1800s, particularly from the Bahamas, and the Keys. In 1919 it became its own city, but in 1925 it was annexed by the City of Miami. The area is often referred to as "The Grove" and many locals take pride that Coconut Grove is one of the greenest areas of Miami. The Grove has become an upscale, leafy neighborhood with relaxed sidewalk cafes and chic shops in and around the CocoWalk mall.

Rafael, the workshop leader, has taught photography for many years and has personally led a multitude of field outings through Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Rafael will be available all along this walk for specific tips, technical consultation, historic facts, and photography information to capture better images and make this a memorable learning experience -This workshop is a “One-of-a-Kind” technically supported photoshoot with attention to practical learning for which there is a $10 fee.

You are invited to join our group and practice the art of photography in one of the most interesting settings in South Florida for great street, architecture, and documentary photography. We'll start in the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial and continue to Lincoln Road; stopping at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, if possible.

Be ready to practice anticipating the “decisive moment” of street photography AND/OR how to plan and compose for static elements (Holocaust Sculpture / Art Deco and Miami Modern -MiMo buildings) before pressing the camera shutter to capture a great image.

We’ll meet at the Holocaust Memorial (1945 Meridian Avenue) in the NE corner of Meridian Avenue and 19th Street and from there we’ll walk over to Lincoln Road (passing by the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and Convention Center) and then walk along Lincoln Road, one of the most thought-after tourist areas in Miami Beach.

Note: There is paid parking along the street -close to the Holocaust Memorial, or two blocks away at the Garage Building south of there at 640 17 Street, this parking building being closer to Lincoln Road.

The workshop leader / instructor (Rafael) taught photography classes at all levels (including digital editing) and has led many field photography outings for over 15 years through Broward and Miami-Dade counties and will walk all along this photoshoot for specific tips, technical consultation, and photography information to capture better images and make this a memorable learning experience for you - This workshop is a “One-of-a-Kind” technically supported photoshoot with attention to practical learning for which there is a $10 fee.

You're cordially invited to join our group on a "hands-on" opportunity to create great photo images in this interesting and diverse area of Miami. Calle Ocho -in Little Havana, is a fantastic location for "Street Photography" with very unusual and challenging photo opportunities.

Come ready to "create magic moments" with... strong wall murals backgrounds, interesting characters, art galleries, cigar rolling factories, dancers / musicians, and unusual local scenery. If you so desire, you can stay after our photoshoot to enjoy a typical (and inexpensive) great meal from the many restaurants in the area.
