This Monday we're heading to Hogshead Brewery in West Highland, where they do something almost no one else in town does: real English cask ale.

Founded by Stephen Kirby, a Brit who brought his cask-brewing experience with him, Hogshead pours traditionally conditioned beer the way it's done across the pond, hand-pulled from beer engines at cellar temperature. Expect a smoother pint with smaller, denser bubbles and the kind of session-strength bitters, milds, and porters made for long conversations.

Start with the Gilpin Black Gold London Porter, named for the Denver street where the original recipe was developed in a home brewery, or the Barges' Mild, and go big with a "proper pint." The vibe is pure neighborhood pub, set in a converted service station near Sloan's Lake. Come for a pint, stay for a chin wag.
