We are continuing a new tradition with Thomas =tg= Grohser, one of the most prolific SQL Server performance engineers of our time. We are creating a periodic geometric table calling it the SQL Server Truncated Icosahedron Table, and will be a panel discussion on selected HADR topics. Our topic this month will be monitoring, evaluating, and reacting to external events to improve database availability.

Managing the availability and recover ability of data and databases successful and within SLA requires you to pay attention and react to events that are outside of your team.

Examples would be extreme weather events (hurricanes, snowstorms, flooding, ...), maintenance in the data center or a special sales event (Taylor Swift concert tickets go on sale).
These events can have an impact on your ability to manage and access your data that in the worst case could be catastrophic. Depending on the event different actions are required to be prepared for or mitigate the event.
In this round table discussion, we will cover the reactions to events that we found worth monitoring, show how to evaluate them and discuss the required/recommended and possible reactions for many of the events.

Join us for this 500-level deep dive into the inner workings of this debate!
