Gans Creek Recreation Area: Natural Features and Biodiversity
a presentation by Dr. David Diamond and Michael Currier
Join us for a program on August 19,2025 at 6:30 PM via Zoom. David Diamond and Mike Currier will talk to us about the complexity, bio-diversity, geophysical settings and connectivity of Gans Creek Recreation Area South, and the opportunity to conserve these natural features. Dr. David D. Diamond began his career as a Heritage Program ecologist for Texas, where he wrote the first classification of the ecological systems of that state. He began mapping ecological systems in the early 1990’s, and has worked to map several Midwestern states in addition to Texas and Oklahoma. He is currently an ecologist for the Missouri Resource Assessment Partnership (MoRAP), University of Missouri, where he served as Director for 25 years. He also serves on the Sierra Club Mid Missouri Group Executive Committee.
Michael Currier holds a MA in Plant Systematics, is a former Field Inventory Biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation, a former Conservation Biologist for the Department of Natural Resources, and a DNR Coordinator for the Missouri Natural Areas Program. He co-authored the Crane Report (2008) documenting the terrestrial natural communities and floristics of the Crane Tract (aka Lofty Cliff Farm, aka the Gans Creek Recreation Area). Currently, he is the Chair of the Land Conservation Committee for Ozark Land Trust, and an Outings Leader for the Sierra Club Mid Missouri Group.
