Hike Smith Creek, Mark Twain National Forest
Details
The hike covers approximately 6.1 miles; moderately difficult with water crossings, rocky terrain, 200 foot elevation gain (in places 15-25% grade). Awesomely scenic with gargantuan cliffs, amazing geologic features, and a wilderness ‘aura’.
What to Bring: sturdy hiking boots, water, lunch or snacks, hiking stick (if desired). Be prepared for variable conditions with layered clothing, wool socks, warm hats, and gloves OR raingear as the weather forecast dictates.
- Base Layer (underwear layer): wicks sweat off skin
- Middle Layer (insulating layer): retains body heat to protect you from the cold
- Outer Layer: (shell layer): protects you from the wind and rain.
